Feature films have been made for over a hundred years and it’s possible that you’ve missed one or two good ones. This column should help you digging through past films that are well worth your time.
ZU – Warriors from the Magic Mountain
It’s with this film that Tsui Hark, legendary director, earned his title of visual wizard from Hong Kong. It tells the story of monks and martial arts experts who have to stop the rise of an evil entity trapped in a mountain (even using their eye-brows to fight… this scene with Sammo Hung has to be seen to be believed:-). As usual with Hark, the story is a bit of a mess, but he more than makes up for it with crazy action scenes and truly exceptional visuals.
